Convertible Term Life Insurance?! Honey, You Shouldn’t Have!

Looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift? The LIFE Foundation, suggests that the best gift for everyone’s favorite pretend holiday will not be found at the florist, the chocolatier, or even Victoria’s Secret. The best expression of your love for your betrothed can be found, they insist, at your friendly, neighborhood insurance agent’s office.

This nonprofit organization, comprised of six leading producer organizations released a survey to coincide with Valentine’s Day that includes, among other findings, that 83% of respondents feel that “buying life insurance that names the loved one as the beneficiary is a good way to express love for that loved one.”

They have even developed an educational web site for consumers based on that message; On it, you can find videos of people expressing their love through life insurance, information on life insurance basics, and even a Romance-O-Meter.

As much as I support the principle and applaud the creativity (I think New York Life did something similar around Valentine’s Day in years past), those that do decide to use their insurance agent as a modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac might also want to stop off and get box a truffles or some champagne anyway. After all, it is nice to buy something for your loved one that you hope they will actually enjoy using.
